For we have become partakers of Christ if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast to the end, - Hebrews 3:14

Matthew, a 3 year-old little boy in Nursery class, loved choo-choo trains. One day, his parents gave him a wooden train set, and he couldn't be more thrilled! He played with it all day long. For a while, it was his most precious toy.

After some time, Matthew started playing with other new toys, and the train set got pushed to the side. It wasn’t his favourite anymore. Sure, he didn't dislike the toy train, but he didn’t like playing with it as much.

Is this how we love Jesus?

When we first learn about Jesus and invite Him into our hearts, we might feel over the moon. We pray, read the Bible, sing hymns, and want to be just like Jesus. Before we realise, school, friends, games, and many other things distract us from Jesus. We forget how much we loved Jesus at first.

The Bible often reminds us to keep our faith and love for Jesus strong from start to finish—not only at the beginning. Jesus isn’t a toy we grow tired of, He is our eternal Saviour and Friend. So, whatever the day, wherever the place, Jesus wants us just as close.

Family Altar

Use these discussion questions and our prayer as a guide for your family altar.

Parents can lead the prayer and invite their children to repeat after them or encourage their children to take the lead, making family altar time a shared journey of faith.

Discussion Questions:

  • What are some things that distract you from thinking about Jesus?

  • Do you remember a time when you were really excited about Jesus?

  • How can you show Jesus that you still love Him today?

Prayer in Words:

In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, we pray.

Thank You for loving us the same all the time.

Please help us not to forget You or treat You like any other toy.

We want to stay close to You everyday, and love You the same or more than when we first loved You.

Hallelujah, Amen.
