但以理书 第七章(英文)

The everlasting King will help us win our spiritual battle against this sinful world.

Kingdoms belong to kings.

In historical films depicting epic battles, 1 king takes over another’s realm. Even in history, this is true: King Darius overcomes King Belshazzar, and the Babylonian kingdom becomes his.

Though arising in Daniel’s vision are 4 great beasts, terrifying kings of the earth, one thing is clear: The non-kings get the kingdom.

Victory to God’s saints!

Earlier in the Book of Daniel, Nebuchadnezzar’s dream helps us understand that earthly kingdoms vary in strength and glory, for they are represented from majestic gold to fragile clay (2:31-45).

In contrast, Daniel’s vision shows the earthly kings/kingdoms as they are, spiritually: powerful, violent, and very petrifying. Another truth: the world wages a fierce war against our souls. Do we see this?

The horn of the 4th beast is little. We who forget the world’s spiritual dangers, this is a warning! Do not be complacent. While engaged in a spiritual battle with this little horn, God’s people come close to losing (Dan 7:21).

But God is the everlasting King of Kings. He brings us victory!

“I was watching; and the same horn was making war against the saints, and prevailing against them, until the Ancient of Days came, and a judgment was made in favor of the saints of the Most High, and the time came for the saints to possess the kingdom.” (Dan 7:21-22)

Whether we like it or not, we’ve been enlisted into the army of Christ. We wage war against our flesh and the pleasures of sin that glisten all around.

But as the Ancient of Days, God is everlasting, while the earthly kings are not. Their fearsome dominions of sin shall pass. Our struggles against sin shall pass. Our trials shall pass.

On our own, we may not be kings. We may be lowly and humble on earth, looked down upon by others. But God makes us kings. By His power, we will overcome the world and reign with Him in His unshakeable Kingdom (Rev 1:6, 5:10; Heb 12:28).

“But the saints of the Most High shall receive the kingdom, and possess the kingdom forever, even forever and ever.” (Daniel 7:18)

🍎 Food for thought: Spiritually, the world is a terrifying beast waging war against me.

  • How much time and energy am I investing in the world?

  • Am I underestimating the spiritual danger that the world poses towards my soul?

  • What is 1 spiritual struggle I want to rely on God to overcome?
