Overseas exchange programmes can be a new, fun adventure - but what may be some worries that I might have?

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE?
For many people, an overseas exchange is probably an opportunity to see the world and experience different cultures. People say that we should be adventurous and try various new things, but should we think the same way? For me, going on an exchange was indeed an opportunity but it was not only just a fun adventure to experience new things. Before I even entered University, I had prayed to God for more opportunities to grow my faith. In the first 2 years of University, I failed to seize these opportunities.
However, God was faithful and continued to remember me. While preparing to go on exchange, God provided for me through my friends, leading me to secure accommodations in church rather than on campus. Since I stayed in church, my life started to truly revolve around God and church. Prioritising God became a habit that I developed in a foreign land where I barely knew anyone.
PURPOSE FULFILLED
The exchange was a valuable experience that allowed me to reflect on who I was as a Christian. When placed in a country where the church members are not the family and friends that we grew up with, it allows us to behave more authentically rather than conforming to people's expectations of us. I found out who I was as a Christian without my family and friends and that made my faith stronger. Building your own faith in God is essential because if you only rely on others, the foundation of your faith is not firm. Having that personal faith with God helps you appreciate Him more and helps you learn to rely on Him more.
My encouragement is to look for a country that has our church and make the effort to ensure that we can easily keep the Sabbath every weekend.
FOR US TO PONDER:
• Why is finding an exchange location with a True Jesus Church important?
• What are some things that I may be worried about during my exchange journey? How can I rely on God to overcome these worries?
