1 Chronicles chapter 6 records the genealogy of the tribe of Levi. When we come across a chapter filled with many names like this, it can sometimes feel difficult to read. Our minds may easily lose focus, and we may be tempted to skip over the chapter and move on to another chapter that seems more interesting.
However, even in chapters like this, the Bible reminds us of something important. These names represent real people who faithfully served God. Their lives and roles played an important part in preserving the worship and service of the Lord among His people. Their legacy was passed down from parents to children, continuing through many generations. Through this, we are also reminded of God’s faithfulness from generation to generation.
Unlike the other tribes of Israel, the Levites were set apart for a special purpose—to serve God. Their lives were devoted to worship, ministry, and caring for the house of the Lord. Their role reminded the people of Israel that worship and service to God should always remain at the centre of their lives.
In the same way, God calls every believer to live with purpose, devotion, and faithfulness. Our lives should be devoted to God through our worship and service. When we truly devote our lives to God, it shapes the way we think, the choices we make, and the way we live each day.
Let us devote our lives to God wholeheartedly. Let us continue to worship Him faithfully, serve Him with a willing heart, and pass on our faith to the next generation, so that God’s work may continue from generation to generation.
