A Christian Student
When entering Uni, some of us may already have our eyes set on certain majors. We may have decided that we want to study xxx so that in the future we can find a job in yyy industry.
There is nothing wrong with having a goal in mind, but as Christians, it is important to also consider how what we study can help us to develop the skills that God and our church needs.
Regardless of what we study, we will develop both practical and soft skills that we can use to contribute to the church.
The earlier we start being mindful of this, the earlier we can find a way to serve God to the best of our abilities.
Different Talents
In the Parable of the Talents, the first lesson we learn is that:
(1) All of us may be given different amounts of talents. We do not have to be envious of our friends who may be in a ‘better’ school or course. On one hand, we should not take things easy and do something simple, just so that God expects less from us, but on the other hand, we should not look down on others less well-educated than us.
This leads to the second lesson we can take away which would be that:
(2) If we waste the talents given to us, then God can and will take away everything else that He has given us. Being able to further our studies is such a talent – it is a privilege that comes from God, and we must consider how we can use that to become a better servant.
For us to ponder:
What are some skills and abilities God is trying to develop in me?
How does seeing others constantly chasing new opportunities impact my perception of what I should be doing with my time?
