JOB HUNT
In the same period, many of my peers were job seeking so they could secure a job before graduation. While they sought for prestigious or high paying jobs, I sought for one with sufficient work-life balance so that I would have enough time to serve God.
Due to my personal setback, it was difficult for me to apply for jobs with the same fervour as them. While they sent out their CVs to over 20 places at once, I only had the physical and mental bandwidth to manage two applications and prayed for God’s will to be done.
Prior to applying for one of the companies, I had gone to its arranged welcome tea where I talked to the staff organising it. While conversing with one man, we realised we had a mutual connection - my Honours Thesis supervisor was a professor this man’s department had good working relations with.
SPIRITUAL HUNT
I also directly asked him if the job had a good work-life balance and was heartened to find out that it did. I believe I was considered for the interview partly due to the good testimonial letter my internship supervisor had written for me, and partly due to the good interaction with the man in the welcome tea (I thought he was a regular staff, but he turned out to be the director of the department who was in the panel of interviewers!).
Praise the Lord, I was given a job offer after a few weeks and it truly had a good work-life balance that allowed me to serve in church faithfully.
I truly believe how God arranged for my job is a testament to His promises in the Bible.
By choosing to only go for 1 internship because I wanted to spend the time on His matters, God blessed me greatly in so many ways through that 1 internship; God also lovingly carried my through the period of my difficult setback, and provided so many sources of help and encouragement.
All glory be given to Him.
