“He who has ears to hear, let him hear!” – these words are recorded across several books in the Bible, words of caution about the grim reality that not all who believe have heard / hear the complete truth.
In this chapter, the Pharisees and Sadducees continue to test and tempt Jesus, hoping that He would eventually fall for their tricks and get tripped up on His own words. Question after question, Jesus answered peaceably and precisely, knowing all too well their hearts’ underlying deceitfulness, unbelief, and misguided understanding of God’s word.
Today, the population of people who call themselves Christians is unrivalled. However, the ones Jesus has counted, the ones who have heard and accepted the true word of God in totality, God Himself has numbered.
Jesus’ words are God’s words. None other has the wisdom and power to explain perfectly except through the Spirit. A few points for self-reflection:
When doubts and fears arise, do you make them known to God out of a pure heart?
How tightly secured is your belt of truth around your waist?
How sharp, polished, refined, and most importantly, well-seasoned is your sword of the Spirit?
May God keep us in the comfort and assurance of His enduring true word, endeavouring toward the Day we fully know just as we also are fully known.
